What are the Most Common Metal Pless Plow Parts
Metal Pless plow parts that are frequently replaced include LiveEdge high-performance cutting edges, hydraulic cylinders, wear shoes, and specialized wiring harnesses. These components are engineered for the MaxxPro, PlowMaxx, AgriMaxx, and other Gen 3 and Gen 4 (2017-present) models. Replacing these Metal Pless parts maintains the performance of the LiveEdge trip mechanism and overall surface scraping efficiency.
Essential Replacement Parts for Metal Pless Series
-
Metal Pless Cutting Edges & LiveEdge Components
The cutting edges of your Metal Pless snow plow should be in good shape at the start of each winter. Cutting edges will be worn down by road salt and abrasive surfaces throughout the snow season, and will need to be replaced eventually. When choosing new edges for your plow attachment, you'll have the choice between standard steel edges and the signature Metal Pless LiveEdge equipment.
We recommend investing in LiveEdge components for your Metal Pless plows. This floating edge system featured carbide cutting edges that float while in operation to match any road or lot surface being plowed. Because of this, Metal Pless LiveEdge plows provide a very clean surface scrape, which reduces the need for salt usage by 20% to 50%. Additionally, LiveEdge plow attachments can perform for over 1,000 hours before needing replacement, meaning that snow contractors can often go five or more seasons between edge replacements.
-
Heavy-Duty Wear Shoes & Curb Protectors
Snow removal contractors must carefully adjust the shoe height of their Metal Pless plow attachments. Insufficient shoe height results in premature, excessive edge wear for both PlowMaxx and MaxxPro models. Depending on the surface being plowed, shoe height should be set at ¼" to 1" inch above the ground so that the blade is not directly scraping against the surface beneath the snow and ice. Even when adjusted properly, plow shoes and curb protectors suffer wear and tear throughout the snow season and will eventually require replacement.
-
Replacement Cylinders & Hydraulic Seal Kits
Your Metal Pless snow plow's hydraulic cylinders and seals will degrade over time, generally requiring replacement every 5 to 15 years. However, harsh operating conditions can cause these components to deteriorate more quickly; routine maintenance is important to combat premature wear. Both HD and LiveEdge models will require replacement cylinders and hydraulic seal kits periodically. Note that the hydraulic fittings of Gen 4 Metal Pless plows (those manufactured since 2017) may differ from the hydraulic fittings of Gen 3 and earlier snow plow attachments.

Metal Pless Parts Compatibility FAQ
-
How do I know if I have a Gen 3 or Gen 4 Metal Pless plow?
Metal Pless Gen 4 plow models have been manufactured since 2017. These new models can be distinguished from earlier equipment generations by their updated manifold blocks and specific reinforcements on the wing hinges. You can identify your plow model by checking its serial number. If the serial number plate is lost, measure the harness pin or cylinder bore to determine whether your plow is Gen 3 or Gen 4 before ordering.
-
Can I use Gen 4 parts on an older Metal Pless plow?
Many Metal Pless components, including plow shoes, are backward compatible with older models. However, hydraulic and electrical components, such as harnesses, changed substantially when Gen 4 rolled out in 2017. Call our team at 507.740.1746 to verify pre-2017 compatibility for our replacement parts.
-
What is the difference between STD, HD, and LE parts?
-
STD means "standard." These parts are ideal for light commercial snow removal work.
-
HD stands for "heavy-duty." Made from reinforced steel, these parts can handle high-volume municipal work and large lot snow clearing.
-
LE parts are specifically designed for the Metal Pless LiveEdge oscillating sectional edge system.
